Videos from brands including Mulberry and ksubi are among the nominees for the upcoming Vimeo Awards, which has introduced a fashion category for 2012 and welcomes Mugler creative director Nicola Formichetti on the judging panel.
Launched in 2010, the Vimeo Awards aim to honor the world's best videos, and, thanks to the community vote, video enthusiasts from across the globe can also have their say at www.vimeoawards.com until April 30.
The fashion category has shortlisted 12 videos which showcase a "fashion, beauty collection or trend with moving image", including the Amanda Boyle-directed Mulberry short film 'Skirt,' which tells the story of a man and woman's relationship through their possessions and interaction with one another. Offerings from Australian fashion label ksubi, fashion short maker shootmefashion.net and director Martin de Thurah are also in the running.
The significance fashion films have today is highlighted by the increasing numbers of awards dedicated to them. Already this year Prada scooped the Best Online Video for its Spring 2011 campaign at the Fashion 2.0 Awards, while talked about fashion films have included short film 'The Cartier Odyssey' by jewelry house Cartier and a Cabaret-themed video 'Club Nouveau,' starring designer Gareth Pugh as Liza Minnelli.
