One leading lady has twins, the other says 'I definitely should not have a baby,' and both led the celebration of pregnancy and motherhood at the 'What To Expect When You're Expecting' movie premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Monday, May 14. And while stars Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz may be the main characters in the film based on the best-selling pregnancy advice book, along with Elizabeth Banks, Brooklyn Decker and Anna Kendrick, being together on the red carpet and at an earlier press conference to support the romantic comedy are the only times they have actually run into each other.
'None of us ever worked together!' Lopez admitted at the press conference with a laugh. But they were all smiles as the premiere stopped traffic on Hollywood Boulevard, as hordes of hollering fans watched breathlessly from across the street. Lopez and the others happily signed a few autographs, then greeted their male costars, including Rodrigo Santoro, Matthew Morrison, Ben Falcone, Joe Manganiello and Chace Crawford.
Each couple's story is told separately, which is why the women never worked on the flick at the same time. So the film follows Lopez and Santoro, Diaz and Morrison, Banks and Falcone, Kendrick and Crawford, and Decker and Dennis Quaid, who missed the shindig. Other cast members on hand included Wendi McLendon-Covey, Thomas Lennon, Whitney Port and Rebel Wilson, as well as director Kirk Jones and producer Mike Medavoy.
And perhaps the most appropriate star at the show was Melissa Joan Hart, whose baby bump is pretty obvious at this point. She's going to have her third child in a few months, so hopefully some of the birthing scenes in 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' didn't scare her too badly, as she's been down this road before. As for Diaz, it didn't take making the movie to scare her off from pregnancy. That happened to her about 15 years ago.
'I saw my sister give birth, a C-section, when I was 24,' the 39-year-old remembered with a shiver during the press conference. 'There was like blood everywhere. My sister?s guts out on a platter. It was crazy. No one should see that! It changed my life.'
